Polybutylene Plumbing

Examples of Polybutylene plumbing and fittings.

This plumbing material has a higher incidence of failure than other types, and has been the subject of class action litigation over such defects.

Buyer's need to be aware of the concerns surrounding Polybutylene plumbing when purchasing a home and plan /budget accordingly. During a home inspection the plumbing system is reviewed for any current leaks, and repairs are recommended when current failure is observed. But there is no way to predict if and/ or when any plumbing system may fail in the future.  Some leaks can be present, but concealed during a home inspection.

Some home owners choose to have a plumbing contractor re-pipe the home for peace of mind. Others monitor conditions, and have repairs performed as needed, understanding the risk(s) involved.
